In America it is estimated that 80% of women will suffer hot flashes during menopause, but in most parts of Asia this is only 12 - 15%. In Japan there isn`t even a word for this condition because it is so rare.

The reason for this is not genetic, but rather diet. In most Asian countries soy is a regular part of ones diet. Traditional Japanese diet includes a large variety of soy products into their daily meals.

Miso soup is included with most meals. Tofu, soy milk, edamame and others are used daily as both the center piece or as a side dish or apetizer. Soy has plant estrogens which are weaker then human estrogen, but otherwise very similar.

This means they are strong enough to often relieve the symptoms of menopause without raising the risk of breast cancer and other concerns of using hormone replacement therapy (HRT).

It is important at this time to get enough protein, but at the same time excess meat eating has been found to exacerbate hot flashes. Including lean meat and fish as a side dish rather then the main course is common practice in Japan and is recommended during menopause.

Certain vitamins and minerals are particularly important reduce hot flashes and other symptoms associated with menopause. As one of your natural remedies for hot flashes be sure to include the following vitamin recommendations. Vitamin E : 400 - 800 International Units (IU).

Take these in 200 IU amounts so that if you are taking 400 IU, then take 200 IU in the morning and another in the evening. If you are taking 800 IU then take 200 IU 4 times during the day. Since 400 IU is the most commonly recommended daily dosage, it is always best to consult a health care professional before using higher amounts, to discuss any concerns.

Be sure to take a vitamin B complex with at least the daily recommendations of all the B vitaimins. The B vitamins will help you manage stress levels amoung other issues.

It is also often recommended that you take 300 milligrams of magnesium, 500 milligrams of calcium and 1000 milligrams of vitamin C. While these do not directly help with the hot flashes they do address other health concerns with this condition which helps balance overall health.

For herbal remedies be sure to try the following:

Black Cohosh can be taken as a pill or as a tea. Take a couple of times a day. Results usually take one to two weeks.

Aloe vera is considered a cooling herb. You can find preps for internal use or as a flower essence that can bring a calm, cool feeling.

Korean Ginseng can give added energy and mental focus along with bringing cool relief for hot flashes.

For sweating issues try Sage as one of your natural remedies for hot flashes. Use 1 ounce of leaves with 1 pint of boiling water and steep 10 minutes. Drink a cup 2 - 3 times a day. Also helpful is to get sage as an essential oil and use in a diffuser to help with hot flashes.

More Natural Remedies for Hot Flashes

Juicing is also one of the excellent natural remedies for hot flashes. You hormones and other chemicals are out of balance at this time and giving it good, easily absorbed nutrition helps restore that balance.

Using hydrotherapy can also be helpful as one of your natural remedies for hot flashes. Each morning prepare a bath that is a little cooler then body tempeture.
